LAKBAY ZAMBALES : MT.BALINGKILAT : A HIKING GUIDE

Mt.Balingkilat literally means a “mountain of thunder” stands 1100 MASL is a one of the highest point in Zambales Coastal Mountains and Coves Area. It was given a 5/9 classification with minor specefication by Pinoy Mountaineer.

How to get there?

1.Take an Olongapo bound bus from Pasay or Cubao bus station. 2.From Olongapo take trike/jeep to Subic Town police. 3.From Subic Town Police Station Head off to Sitio Cawag (Kap Jimmy’s place/Jump-off point)

The Trail

The initial part of the trail is approximately 1 hour from the jump-off point. This trail features 7 small river/stream crossing and is a grassy slopes kind of trail. The grass is tall and sharp enough to cause a cuts in leg, arm and even in face, so best to wear long sleeves or arm warmer when planning to conquer this mountain.

From the kawayanan, or the second half of the trail, its appoximately 2-3 hours to summit. It consist of rocky and inclined steep trail making it more challenging than the initial part of the trail. Everyone need to be cautious when assaulting as the trail has an open ridges, rocky slopes and sharp boulders.

At The Summit

From the summit you will be greeted by the breathtaking view of Zambales Coves Area and the neighboring mountains such as Mt.Cinco Picos enough to forget the challenge and hardships from the trail going to top.

Php460.00 Bus fare from Cubao to Olongapo Vice-versa Php1000.00 Tricycle from Olongapo to Subic Town police – Sitio Cawag (Jump-off point) Vice-versa Php60.00 Registration Fee Php700.00 Guide fee.

Php10.00 use of comfort room

Important Facts

*The summit can be reach in 4-6 hours from the jump-off point. *The guides are required and availble in the Jump-off point. Coordinate with kap Jimmy for the guide. 09219543215 (Chieftain Jimmy) *Cellphone signal is present throughout the trail and summit. *There are water source. one in kawanan and one in the base camp at the summit.
